Basketball Games For Kids
Basketball Games For Kids
Basketball itself is one of the most popular sports of all time. It’s extremely popular amongst young children who hope someday to play like “Jordan“ or “Kobe”. In gym it’s one of the sports that most kids pick without fail. You cannot deny the power of basketball games, especially among children. All that is needed is a basketball, court and maybe some friends. It’s refreshing to see young kids outside playing ball rather than inside stuck on computers playing another war game or MMORPG. We’re not saying that games like World of Warcraft and World of Tanks are bad, just that like anything else, they should be played in moderation.
Anyone that has ever played Basketball or other physical game knows that you can’t just go right into a game expect to do wonders. These basketball games for kids are very simplistic, fun and energetic which gets the heart rates pumping and ready for a game but you need to get their body ready for the game first.
First things first when playing basketball games for kids: Rotation
Now the best of the basketball games for kids in my opinion is the one where you divide them into groups of 3 or 4 and team them against each other. Now it’s a competition of who get the most points in 60 seconds and the teams switch players in rotation until you’re back where you started. For example on team Red you have Player A,B,C D and on Blue Team you have E,F,G,H. After every thirty second one player from team Red will be drafted into Blue and one player will be drafted into team Red. While playing basketball games for kids like this you are basically seeing who the best players are.
Basketball games for kids: Two Step Pass
Again split your group into two teams and they must only take two steps MAXIMUM to make a pass. Anymore and they are out of the game. At the end of it you will be left with only two players and they will fight it out in a shootout.
Basketball games for kids: PATHS
Paths is one of the better basketball games for kids for the simple reason that it helps kids improve on the most important skill in basketball; agility. You set out cones in the middle of the court and they must dribble in and around the cones and make the shot at the end. Most kids will not make this shot first time, so you give them 3 tries. This is not a competition based game and it’s purely to analyse their skill levels.
Basketball games for kids: BINGO
BINGO is a simple basketball game for 2 players. The first player attempts to make a basket and if they make it, the 2nd player must make the same shot. If they do, then the first player tries another shot, if the 2nd player missed a shot that the first player made, they get the letter ‘B’. If the 1st player misses a shot, then the ball goes to the 2nd player who then tries to make shot for the 1st player to duplicate. So, whoever is trying to take the shot first – if they miss, the ball goes to the 2nd player. If they make it, then other player has to duplicate the shot or they get the next letter. The first player to get each letter B-I-N-G-O losses. Of course, each player continues to try more and more difficult shots to make it harder for the other player.
Basketball games for kids: Red Light Green Light
Another one of the basketball games for kids. Similar to the non-basketball game, each player starts at a baseline and the caller some distance away. When the caller calls out “Green Light”, the players must dribble while moving towards the caller – their goal. When the caller calls out “Red Light”, they must stop immediately. Any players caught taking an additional step are disqualified. Green Light and Red Light is alternated until a player reaches the caller. The first player to reach the caller wins.
